What has your learning journey been like after GESS?
After graduating from GESS in June, I went to prepare for my National Service in Singapore which started in September 2013 and ended in September 2015. After which, I moved to Germany and started my university studies in Bamberg in the summer semester of 2016, majoring in both English and Political Science. Upon graduation in the summer of 2020, I started my Master’s Degree in Political Science at the University of Potsdam in autumn 2020.
What is your favourite memory of your time at GESS?
One of my favourite memories from GESS was representing the school at the South-East Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2007, Singapore in 2009 and Manila in 2011.
What do you miss most about your time at GESS?
The time spent hanging out with my friends in the cafeteria or on the football field at the Bukit Tinggi Campus.
What do you miss about Singapore and your life here?
I miss quite a few things about Singapore. The first thing that comes to mind is the food because it is so diverse and available almost 24/7, wherever you are in Singapore.
Do you think your time in Singapore and your time at GESS have impacted your (future) life?
I think my time at GESS and in Singapore has impacted me tremendously as a person because I have made so many memories in the classroom and outside, and these memories and lessons make me the person I am today.
Is there any piece of advice or any experience you would like to share with current GESS students?
Take in as much as possible, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes because learning from them will only make you stronger. Stay optimistic, be hungry to learn and don’t forget to have fun on the way.
Are you planning to visit Singapore and GESS in the future?
Yes, my family still lives there and so I visit them at least once a year.
