We know you have been trying your hands at theatre out of school for some time, but now that you are in middle school, you have joined the GESS Theatre & Drama Club. What have you been busy with lately?

Here at GESS, students from Grade 4 to 8 have just recently performed our latest musical, Seussical. Seussical is all about the stories from famous children’s book author, Dr Seuss.

What made you join the Club, and how has the experience been so far? Is it what you imagined? What are some of your challenges, things you like and others that you are adapting to?

I’ve always had a love for theatre, so once I heard about the opportunity to be in a school production, I couldn’t turn it down. I haven’t been in GESS Theatre Club for long but from my current experience, it is such an honour. The teachers are encouraging and understanding, I couldn’t ask for more.

How does balancing schoolwork and your personal passion work – how do you cope?

My teachers have always been so understanding when it came to me having to miss classes for my theatre endeavours. For me, when it comes to opportunities in theatre, and family are always supportive and they’re the ones that push me to be confident and are why I love theatre.

Any new or exciting performances out of school?

A constant is that I’m taking drama lessons at Centre Stage School of the Arts, at the end of the second semester we always have a performance. The most recent show was Honk! Jr, in which I played Ida.

Lastly, what do you aim to achieve or learn from getting involved in and spending time and effort in your interests and passion?

Doing theatre has taught me multiple skills such as teamwork and creativity. I hope to continue cultivating these essential qualities in my theatre endeavours.
