How long have you been at GESS and in Singapore?

I have been at GESS now for 6 years. This is my second time living in Singapore. Scott (my husband) and I originally moved here in 2008 for 5 years before heading to Hong Kong and then moving back to Singapore. Both of our children were born here and are now 12 and 10 years old.

Why did you and your family join GESS?

GESS came highly recommended to us by our friends. They told us stories about how great working in Eurosec Primary is, how awesome the staff is, and how happy they and their children are at GESS. We were over the moon when two jobs came up in Eurosec Primary as that is very rare! The fact that GESS is a non-profit school was also a massive drawcard for us.

What’s your favourite thing to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my family and friends, running, having a nice glass of wine, and travelling.

What do you especially love about working in GESS?

The people. We are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing and diverse staff and student demographic. In Primary School, the staff are like one big family. We genuinely care about one another and are constantly learning from everyone in the team. The students at GESS are fantastic too. They are sparky and full of life – there’s never a dull moment!

Which new initiatives and plans are you excited about working on in your newly appointed role as Director of Primary School?

I’m really excited about GESS’ partnership with Corwin and John Hattie, renowned researchers in education. I think this professional development is going to have a huge impact on our teachers and students. I’d also really like to develop service learning in the Primary School. Some of my best memories of Primary School in New Zealand are singing at the local retirement home and listening to the residents talk about the good old days. I’d really like for each grade to have a connection to a group in the community and build it up over the coming years.

Anything else you would like to share?

I’m super excited about my new role and I really appreciate the support I have received so far from all corners of the GESS community. Sarah Thomas (the former Director of Primary) built a wonderful European Section Primary School, and I can’t wait to continue her legacy.
