Congratulations to our Class of 2022! Both our Abitur and IB Diploma students made us proud with 100% pass rate. Not only is 2021/22’s Abitur cohort of 38 graduates the biggest number in GESS to date, this year’s result is also the BEST Abitur Results in GESS history! In addition, over 30% of the IB Diploma cohort scored 40 points or more, with an average score of 35.3.

We are very proud of our graduates and kudos to the academic team for mentoring, supporting and tutoring our graduates!

We had the chance to chat with four of our wonderful graduates before they start their next chapters, on their journey in GESS as well as future plans.

On what they are most looking forward to at their respective universities…

Kayleigh: I’m really looking forward to the campus, because it looks stunning and I’m really excited to get to know new people and adventure around. Also, because the campus is in central London – for King’s – it’s just really cool to be in that area and experience that kind of lifestyle.

Meera: Experiencing something different in a different country, away from your comfort zone. I think it’s a great opportunity to grow and also discover yourself a little more as you’re independent, understanding the good things about yourself and the not-so-good things about yourself. What needs working on and how you can use your strengths to grow further.

Simon: It’s a completely new place for me, but I think that would be interesting, being in a new environment. I look forward to the student life.

Sarah: I’m looking forward to studying aerospace engineering and learning all these things, but I’m also very much looking forward to meeting new people of different backgrounds and just having a lot more and new opportunities, having a lot more practical experiences, working in the holidays and also just living in Germany and living as a student and just having all those different experiences.

On what our graduates will miss most about GESS…

Kayleigh: I’m definitely going to miss my friends a lot, the people from my year. I’m so sad, because I probably won’t see them as often as I used to. I also miss hanging out in the classrooms and doing the things you used to do every day where you are eating lunch together.

Meera: I think the community feeling over here is very supportive and a great place when you are young and discovering who you are. Teachers and students and your classmates and all the staff are very supportive of you and they really helped me reach my goals. I will definitely miss that.

Simon: We really had a tight-knit community with the students and our teachers and I’m going to miss that a lot.

Sarah: I think what I will miss most about GESS are the people. I mean, first of all, the campus is great. The school itself, it’s amazing, but the people are just very special. You form very deep bonds, especially since I’ve been at the school for 10 years.

On who they are thankful to during their GESS journey…

Kayleigh: Mr Walton helped me so much in school. Especially with my personal statement, he made the application process so easy and helped me through it, he really did help me figure out my options and what I really want to consider, what I want to study. Also Ms Bullock, she helped me so much with my EE (extended essay). She was the sweetest teacher throughout the year. She used to get us snacks when we had classes at 4.40pm and would just really make our day.

Meera: I think all my teachers, they definitely helped me get to where I am today and I wouldn’t be here without them. They are all a part of me at the end of the day, because when you are young, the people who surround you kind of become who you are so I look up to many of them.

Simon: I’d like to thank my English teacher Mr Pfister who was always a great motivator and an enthusiastic teacher, but also a good companion. And also my French teacher for sometimes kicking me in the butt when she had to.

Sarah: There are two very special teachers which are Frau Meyer and Herr Metzger. We’ve thanked them a lot throughout our graduation process, but they are just very special and they’ve helped us so much and they’ve really spent their time outside of classes to help us and to prepare us for our future, for graduating and also for the university life afterwards.

Meera also shared a few wise words on what she took away from her time at GESS: “Don’t be afraid to take challenges. It’s ok to make mistakes and fail sometimes and you learn from them. It’s all part of the process. Keep going, always keep your head up!”

All the very best in your exciting new chapters in life, Kayleigh, Meera, Simon, Sarah and all our wonderful graduates! Do stay in touch with GESS and come visit us when you are in Singapore.
