NEWS – Meet the New Secondary School Teachers

The GESS teaching faculty is growing with new additions of teachers, from all around the globe, who have made the decision to be part of our vision and work. It goes without saying that teachers are an integral part of any school so we are very much delighted to have these new teachers, their perspectives and expertise. Here is an introduction to our new Secondary School Teachers and new counsellor.

Annette Pollard

Annette holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from University of Exeter and a PGCE from University of Bristol. She has previously taught MYP Science (mainly physics) and DP physics in Malawai and also served as the Head of Science for 5 years.

Bettina Kotyk-Skrodzki

Bettina has studied in universities around the world – in Cologne, Bonn (both in Germany), Spain and Ecuador. She later worked in Germany before coming to GESS.

Daniel Gottwald

Daniel studied mathematics, physics and sports in Germany. He was briefly at GESS as a School Assistant in 2015 before continuing his work in Germany as a Secondary School Teacher.

Kirsten Straeter

Kirsten is a trained special education teacher who has previously worked at the German International School in New York.

Kok Hoong, Fong

Kok Hoong holds a Master of Mathematics Education and Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education, NTU. He previously got his Bachelor’s degree at the National University of Singapore. He brings with him, 21 years of teaching experience.

Linda Hagebölling

Linda’s expertise lies in teaching literature and theater. She has 11 years of experience teaching in high schools in Germany.

Nick Cornish

Nick acquired his teacher training in Canada and thereafter built up his international teaching experience in Ecuador, Austria and now Singapore. He is experienced in teaching MYP Individuals & Societies and English, and DP History.

Ruchika Shrivastava

Ruchika holds a Master’s Degrees in Mathematics from the University of Madras and a Master’s of Philosophy Degree from Periyar University. She has been teaching in Singapore for the past 4 years and has a total of 8 years of teaching experience.

Ryan Kosch

Ryan completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) programme in Philosophy and History at Queen’s University and also has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degree from Indiana University. He has previously taught in Ontario, Canada and Hefei, China.

Simeon Pollard

Simeon has an extensive 17 years of teaching experience in various syllabi across GCSE, BTEC and IB. He has previously acquired international teaching experience in Malawi and France.

Svenja Fahrenholz

Svenja holds a Master’s Degree from Bielefeld University. Her teaching experience spans across primary, secondary, adult and special needs education domains. She is also an accredited Specialist in Coaching the Gifted (ECHA Coach). She has previously taught in Germany, USA and Hong Kong.

Tomas Bown

Tomas spent his high school years in Chile where he also completed a Psychology Degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Later, he relocated to the US and worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Santa Fe. He has 16 years of experience with expertise in trauma and anxiety related disorders. He spent the last 3 years at the Stamford American International School, Singapore.

Tom Smahon

Tom holds a degree in economics and degree in business studies with a professional diploma. He has 12 years of teaching experience and prior to becoming a teacher, he spent 10 years in banking and finance.
