With so many events currently being cancelled we were incredibly happy to be able to move our planned Alumni Event to the virtual world. What was supposed to be a face-to-face reunion was changed to a cosy Zoom hangout. For our first Alumni event we were joined by 6 of our wonderful teachers, who have all been at GESS for a long time and know our Alumni community well. They joined the Alumni for two networking sessions and a Meet-Your-Teacher-session. We changed things up a bit by conducting a short quiz about GESS that showed how well our Alumni still know our school. Around 20 Alumni participated, ranging from Alumni who were among the very first GESS students in the 1970s up to Alumni who just graduated last year. We saw lots of smiling faces and heard lots of animated conversations. And because everyone had so much fun, the event that had been scheduled for 1 hour became a 1.5 hour engaging affair.
After such a successful prelude, there will of course be further Alumni events, some of which are already in the making . Hopefully, at some point we will also be able to meet in person.
Following feedback from our participants, future events will be longer and will allow more time for networking, catching up and connecting with each other.
