At the end of graduation, when our students walk out of our doors, we want more than anything for them to feel bold and confident that they can thrive and succeed in the world beyond our walls. Therefore, we care immensely that we stay on top of all the rapid changes and digitalisation in the world.
Part of the plan to keep our education and programmes relevant is to establish as many external partnerships as would be useful to our students; partnerships that will open doors for them, that will help them to see better what their future holds and what they can aspire towards. Importantly, partnerships also enable GESS to be conscious of the education standards we need to meet in a changing world.
The name of the education game is to be future-oriented and that is what our external partners help us do!
We are, therefore, absolutely thrilled about some of the new partnerships we have forged in the past academic year:
TUM Asia (Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia)
The Technical University of Munich is a frontrunner as far as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects go. Easily one of the top universities in Europe, its tertiary education provisions and research work are prized highly.
TUM Asia, the Asia campus of TUM, opened in Singapore in 2002 and provides holistic higher education services from undergraduate to postgraduate programmes and-or applied research programmes to students here in Singapore and from all over the world.
Since December 2019, when GESS and TUM Asia officially formalised a partnership agreement, we have been looking ahead to a future of lab visits, science talks, public lectures, and internships for our students.
Furthermore, the partnership with TUM Asia will be a valuable addition to the group of Scientific Partners supporting our Junior Engineering Academy.
Upcoming Plans:
- TUM Asia Lecture Series @ GESS, 3 to 4 Lectures Per Annum
- First lecture is planned for November 2020
- Lecturer: Prof. Martin Buss (https://www.professoren.tum.de/en/buss-martin/)
- Title: “Control of Intelligent Robots and Social Networks”
Danfoss
Danfoss, a Danish Multi-National Company, renowned for its innovative and energy-efficient engineering solutions, has joined the rank of GESS Corporate Partners since 16 March 2020. Our students will be learning directly from sustainability-conscious experts on the relevance of energy efficiency to sustainable development – a topic that is gaining increasing importance in the world and one which will definitely be where many future career options will be. Through this partnership, our students will be able to visit the Danfoss Training Centre, enjoy public lectures, attend Danfoss learning online, and even explore internship possibilities with Danfoss.
Upcoming Plans:
- Our Junior Engineering Academy students will be visiting the Danfoss Application Development Centre in the first half of the new Academic Year
- In future, there will be corporate talks presented by the Danish experts at Danfoss for the Danish Mother Tongue Language students to both feed their interest in the Danish language and to expose them to the language in the context of an industry
ALBA Berlin
Here is an exciting partnership for the basketball enthusiasts out there! Founded in 1989, ALBA Berlin has become the most popular basketball club in Germany and one of the most prestigious franchises in European basketball. Their 9 German Championships and 10 German Cup titles speak for themselves. Cooperating with more than 160 schools in and outside of Berlin makes the club an important social role player in society, particularly within the sports and educational landscape. Basketball can make a valuable contribution to living a healthy, sustainable and socially integrated lifestyle and ALBA is convinced that basketball has the power to inspire and unite people in a way that little else does.
Now, ALBA Berlin is a GESS partner and will give students opportunities to participate in workshops held by coaches of ALBA Berlin and an annual friendly tournament bringing together students from across Singapore. Students will even have the chance to go to Berlin during the Easter break and meet players. It does not, however, start and end with basketball. ALBA Group, the main sponsor of the basketball club, is also a leading recycling and environmental services company worldwide and will use basketball and cultural activities to educate students on recycling and sustainability.
